Coping Mechanism (2007-2008)
Coping Mechanism is a video series that explores contemporary anxieties and psychological struggles through the digital realm of The Sims video game. The work uses the game’s virtual characters as avatars to examine human behavioral patterns and the ways people navigate personal difficulties.

By appropriating the familiar domestic simulator as an artistic medium, the series transforms gameplay into a form of digital theater where pixelated characters act out scenarios of crisis and adaptation. The work questions the boundaries between virtual and real emotional experiences, while commenting on how digital environments increasingly serve as spaces for processing human psychology.

The use of The Sims (a game centered on controlling simulated lives) creates a layered commentary on agency, control, and the mechanisms we employ to cope with life’s challenges.
